Neighborhood

Perched above the city and offering the best views of Tilden Park and Wildcat Canyon, the Park Hills neighborhood is a diverse and welcoming community, gently built into the natural landscape adjacent to Tilden Park in Berkeley. The neighborhood consists of approximately 220 homes primarily built from 1939 to 1952. Homes in the neighborhood are built in a variety of styles and feature spacious patio decks, manicured lawns and lushly landscaped gardens.  The neighborhood is friendly, supportive, and multigenerational. In fact, several neighbors are second-generation Park Hills residents.

Park Hills is quiet and secluded, with a convenient commute to San Francisco, while not far from urban areas. The neighborhood itself offers many walking paths and open areas common to neighbor members. Wires are underground, and there are no streetlights to get in the way of stargazing.

The nearby Tilden Regional Park offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and nearly 40 miles of miles of scenic hiking and biking paths. Park amenities include a beautiful botanical garden, the Little Farm, swim at Lake Anza, take a spin on the Merry-Go-Round, or enjoy a round of golf at Tilden Park Golf Course.

Not far from the thriving retail district on Solano Avenue featuring a wide variety of stores, shops, and plenty of great restaurants, including groceries, coffee shops, all kinds of retails and restaurants. Additionally, the infamous Gourmet district is just a short drive away and offers even more dining choices.

Despite its elevated location, North Berkeley Hills is extremely transit-friendly. The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus lines that serve the neighborhood drop residents at the Downtown Berkeley BART station for a quick commute to downtown San Francisco. Berkeley Hills residents who live near the western section of the neighborhood are less than one mile away from the heart of UC Berkeley, making it a great area for faculty and administrators to live.
